2012 Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
94 Points, Wine Advocate
There are 366 cases of the smoking good 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard, which comes from one of the prime spots not only the Horse Heaven Hills AVA, but also all of Washington State. Full-bodied, rounded, and supple, with impressive elegance in its texture, purity of fruit and lengthy finish, it gives up classic black raspberry and cassis fruit intermixed with notions of lead pencil, spring flowers and integrated oak. This shows the depth and richness of the vintage nicely, and has enough substance to evolve for a decade. It’s another 2012 that will be better with 1-2 years in bottle. - Jeb Dunnuck
2012 has proven to be an outstanding vintage in Washington state, providing us with bold fruit and balanced tannins. The Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from Block 5 and Baby Poux, reveals very dark fruits, black cherry, fig, cassis, savory spice, and tea leafs. Hints of strawberry rhubarb, and stewed red fruits add to the aromas. The palate is smooth with expressions of sweet tobacco, chocolate, and vanilla. Upon release, the wine takes some time to open up, but it is so worth the wait. Drink now through 2020.
