2012 Red Mountain Merlot
92 Points, Wine Advocate
A rocking Merlot from the baking hot slopes of Red Mountain, the 2012 Merlot is loaded with ripe black cherry fruit, chocolate, licorice and ground herb-like qualities that flow to a full-bodied, mouth filling, and voluptuously textured profile on the palate. Aged in 56% new French oak and 44% new American oak, it has plenty of mid-palate depth, good tannin quality and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 5-6 years.
Red Mountain Merlot returns in the 2012 vintage, showcasing one of our favorite varietals, which excels on Red Mountain. This is an elegant and focused Merlot with plenty of stewed red fruits of cherry, strawberry, and cranberry. Complimented by earthy and minearl tones with notes of tobacco, licorice, and molasses. The midpalate expresses notes of dried fruits and savory baking spice that develop with lots of chewy rounded tannins, that finishes with hints of cola and licorice.
