2012 Optu Red Mountain
93 Points, Wine Advocate
A blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2012 Optu is a superb effort that’s loaded with notions of blackcurrants, plum, licorice and vanilla bean. Raised in 40% new French oak and 7% new American oak, it’s full-bodied, voluptuous, layered and one sexy drink. There’s some obvious vanilla oak here, but it doesn’t detract from the sheer wealth of beautiful fruit and texture, and this is more than a simple fruit bomb as well. I’d drink it over the coming 5-7 years, but it will evolve for longer. - Jeb Dunnuck
Optu, at the peak of the Fidelitas line up, represents a selection of our favorite barrels in each vintage. A truly complex Cabernet based blend, with lots of dark black cherry, blackberry, and plum spiked with a touch of pomegranate. The fruit aromas are layered among notes of cassis, dried tobacco, and buttered toast. Very smooth intake on the palate, with rounded elegant tannins on the finish. A wine you want to spend some time with!
