“This Merlot is always my go-to barbeque wine” says Charlie “it’s so well-balanced with loads of fruit, tannin, and structure all working together which makes it easy to pair with all types of cuisine.” The 100% varietal is sourced from some of the oldest blocks on Red Mountain at Kiona, and newer plantings from the Estate and Blackwood Canyon. “We love blending single varietals especially for a wine like Merlot that can vary so much with the age of the vineyard” explains Will “in the newer plantings you get bright, red, juicy fruit characteristics, and with the mature vines you get earthy, spicy, and tobacco flavors with more elegant tannins.” Combine them all together and this makes for a showcase of one of the best places in the world to grow Merlot.
